OUR STORY

"Look! I’m doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don't you recognize it? I’m making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness." -Isaiah 43:19

We are a church carefully listening to the voices of our neighbors in the community and responding to what God is doing in their lives.

Wellington Heights Community Church began in March 2020 with a small group of individuals meeting in the Carter’s home in Wellington Heights.  This group of individuals was committed to digging into the scriptures to prayerfully consider our mandate to love God and love our neighbor.

We pivoted our approach in launching a multicultural faith community to a digital platform to keep one another safe during an unprecedented time of COVID-19 with virtual Bible studies, guided prayer and a bi-monthly online service. Along with virtual gatherings, we are grateful to actively BE the church and offer hope and practical help during this time. It is evident that all of the unique circumstances of 2020 provided opportunities for God's love to shine brightly in the midst of the challenges.

What a year 2020 was for us all - living in a global pandemic and in the aftermath of a natural disaster in our community. Through it all, God has continued to do what God always does guiding, comforting, leading and bringing hope in the midst of adversity and suffering. What a comfort and joy to know that God is with us and guides us as we seek to join the work that God is doing among us in our community.

We are still searching for adequate words to share the magnitude of how God has worked in ways far more than we could have hoped or imagined in year one of launching the church.

Isaiah 43:19 has continually come to mind over the past year which says:

"Look! I’m doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don't you recognize it? I’m making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness."

As we continue forward together, let us continue to look for the new thing that God is doing among us.  Our faith community’s story continues to unfold, as the Spirit leads.  We continue to look to God and how the Spirit is prompting us as a beloved community to lean in and live out this new story that God is writing.

MEET THE CARTERS

For years, Keeyon and Stephanie have sensed God guiding them to lead together, and equipping them specifically to build a multicultural community committed to loving God and neighbor.  We as a family and a church are rooted in the Wellington Heights neighborhood and are carefully listening to the voices of our neighbors in the community and responding to what God is doing.

We are committed to the journey of people and our neighborhood being holistically restored through God’s redeeming power at work in the community.

In addition to their decade of ministry experience, Keeyon is finalizing his theological degree from Fuller Seminary.

Together, they have two young boys who fill their home with laughter and noise whom they are exceedingly grateful for.

As a family, they enjoy staying active together with walks and bike rides around the neighborhood. Along with a passion from their two emerging activist children for welcoming others into the vision of the Beloved Community.
