FLOURISHING NEIGHBORHOOD INDEX
Wellington Heights Community Church launched The Flourishing Neighborhood Index (FNI) in 2024 to measure 13 areas of neighborhood well-being, grouped in three categories:
Social Cohesion: How connected, included, and represented residents feel.
Structural Integrity: The condition of buildings, roads, and services in the neighborhood.
Economic Vitality: How businesses, jobs, and ways to build wealth come together to make the neighborhood lively and connected.
204 neighbors responded to an in-depth survey, and more neighbors attended community gatherings where we shared results. Here is an example of what we learned:
(% participants that strongly/mostly agree)
82% say Wellington Heights is a recognized neighborhood
78% enjoy their current job
72% are satisfied with access to healthcare
69% are proud of Wellington Heights and say it is welcoming and inclusive
54% say childcare costs create stress in their family
48% say sidewalks are safe and streets have good lighting
26% volunteer for neighborhood events
14% say there are good grocery options
Now it’s time for the Activation phase, when those who live and/or work in Wellington Heights come together to make the community better. Based on the survey results, the initial areas of focus are:
